Rocco Design Architects designed the Performing Arts Centre, flagship of the Bao’An Cultural Complex in Shenzhen, China. Overlooking Qianhai Bay and the South China Sea, the building mediates between Bao’An’s coastal landscape and the more densely-developed commercial areas further inland. The 28,000 sq. m. building houses Shenzhen’s first performance hall to be scaled and equipped for international operas, as well as a 600-seat flexible venue and rehearsal facilities. An art form in itself, the Performing Arts Centre lays the foundation for a robust cultural community within the city’s coastal ecology.

CapitaSpring is a 280-meter-tall high-rise oasis in the bustling CBD of Singapore. As Singapore's second tallest tower , the 93,000 m2, 51 story mixed-use development continues Singapore’s pioneering vertical urbanism by creating a diverse neighborhood of places to work, live, and play. At multiple elevations, the vertical elements comprising the building’s exterior façade are pulled apart to allow glimpses into the green oases blooming from the base, core, and rooftop ‘skygarden’ (housing over 38,000 plants). A dynamic interplay of orthogonal lines and lush greenery presents itself in the contrasting textures of steel and glass, interweaved with tropical vegetation.

Forming part of the gateway to Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen development, the Bice Building is the last of the buildings arising from the 1921-22 masterplan for the Royal Adelaide Hospital and included in the south-west precinct State Heritage Place to be refurbished. Following several previous alterations, the key adaptive re-use design strategy the team applied was to reinstate the original, significant architectural elements and design with these inherited alterations. The refurbished heritage building provides equitable accommodation for industries of the future, creating a seamless digital and physical environment.

Situated at Bras Basah area, the building, originally completed in 1989, underwent an Asset Enhancement Initiatives (AEI) and obtained Singapore Green Mark Platinum rating in 2022. The refurbishment includes conversion of existing unutilised spaces into leasable areas without expanding building footprint. Enhance development value by redesigning existing ground commercial spaces and strengthening connectivity to surrounding transportation nodes. We overhauled the dated facade through a series of horizontal and vertical elements, presenting a simple yet vibrant aesthetic. The fresh elements also provide shade that reduces up to 44% of solar radiation and lowering overall building energy use throughout the year.

PDP London was appointed as the designer of an exclusive residential development in the  heart of  Tokyo,  just a moment away from Omotesando -an area well known for a large number of International fashion flagship stores and popular restaurants. A key challenge was developing the building envelope and facade design working with the difficult constraints of the site. The development consists of 14 apartments and all of them are over 190sqm+ including a whole floor penthouse with a dedicated entrance lobby and a lift. We created a high quality and healthy senior residence where intellectual sensibilities harmonize with the feel of history and greenery of the location. The façade employs granite vertical louvers to give a natural feel while creating a rhythmical base for the building. Warm vertical louvers and soft curves draw the eyes through the entrance space from the entry to the elevator hall. The entrance concept is a walk through the woods with the impression of thickets and sunlight filtering through the trees while also invoking the feel of the intricate lattice work of samurai homes.

JR Kumamoto Railway Station Building is the product of biophilic design, which aims to improve human productivity and happiness by incorporating nature. The facility’s centerpiece is the “Boken no Mori” ("Adventure Garden"), a large indoor space of water and greenery that extends from the ground to the seventh floor while hosting dozens of plants native to Japan. Floors 1 through 8 hosts retail stores, restaurants, a multiplex movie theater and a wedding hall, while a hotel occupies floors 9 through 12. The square in front of the station imaginatively blurs the conventional boundary between train station and park.

The Hanabata Public Space and Sakuramachi Redevelopment plans illustrate the honor and pride of Kumamoto while aiming to be a symbolic regional tourist spot. Reconstruction of the central area was also required to carry on its historical heritage after earthquakes struck the area in 2016. This large complex accommodates Japan’s largest bus terminal, and includes a hotel, cultural and commercial facilities, and a rooftop garden 30 meters above ground, from which nearby Kumamoto Castle can be clearly viewed. Kumamoto Castle components were used in the vocabulary for the two projects, and the castle town was recreated with an integrated design.
